There are many Otaku in Japan such as Rekishi Otaku, Anime Otaku, Densha Otaku etc.
What do you think about Otaku? Some people say they are little strange and have a lot of figures of the animetion characters and they don't talk to people so much or other negative ideas. But I think Otaku are amazing because this is kinds of their hobby and they love it very much. When I watch TV, Otaku about "ONE PIECE" and editors of "ONE PIECE" appeared and they gave some quizes each other and competed. Otaku knew about "ONE PIECE" very specific and editors were very surprised. I think they love it very much, so they could know it very much. I like Japanese animation and manga very much but not like Otaku and sometimes I can't understand why they want to know animetion very deep, so I respect them some parts.

If they can lead a "normal" life after they've finished reading/doing whatever it is they are obsessed with, I think that's okay too. I wonder, though, how many of them can't have a good job, or have trouble talking with people who are not their type of otaku etc. In that case, it would be a problem.
ReplyDeleteI used to obsessed with ONE PIECE. I'm addicted to it. I couldn't stop reading. Sometimes I read it all day long. It was waste of my time.
ReplyDeleteAfter I read post, I thought the impression is change depends on the words which have almost the same meaning like: a huge fan, freak, nerd, geek and so on. So maybe otaku is a huge fan of manga or anime, right? I am a huge fan of comedy movies, and I could be called movie freak. :p My image of anime otaku is; have a backpack, were jeans and checked shirts. They sometimes freaks me out! What do you think?
ReplyDeleteI also like anime but I don't think I am an otaku either. I wonder what it has to take to be an otaku? Buying figures? Also, adding to miho's comment, I'd like to add a poster in the backpack, wearing glasses and holding a camera.
